Losing Myself In A Book
Losing Myself In A Book For as long as I can remember, reading and books have been important to me. My favourite genres are crime-based fiction, mysteries and biographies I continue to be a voracious reader. Every twenty-one days (the lending period at our public libraries), I load up my bookbag and head off to return the ten to twelve books that are due back. I also take a binder, with an alphabetized list of authors and their books that I have already read. it helps avert the disappointment o getting home, sitting down to read and after a few pages realizing, ah geez, I have already read this one. I have passed the love of reading onto my too. She will complete a book in one sitting as she hates to face an unfinished book the next day. War and Peace was a rare exception! I have tried adapting to an electronic reader but it just isn't the same. I love the feel of a book in my hands and turning the pages, wondering what twists and turns the story may take. |

Oh my, you know long it has been since I read a book that wasn't a service manual or computer technology and code ? Hmmmm lemme think back (Makes a clearing through the cobwebs in my mind) ahhh yes L. Ron Hubbard had a trilogy out called "Mission Earth". I think I read that back in the mid to late '80's. Other than that I normally am reading thew bible over on Bible Gateway. (Yes I read the bible often). I also have listened to audio of "The Book of Enok". I know we have a kindle but my better half has that filled with mega books that she purchased for pennies on the dollar. I do believe she has the entire paperback version within our book shelves from the Nancy Drew series. I have no idea beyond 'kings and queens' and 'romance' novels that are on our kindle, I never got into that stuff although she always threatens to drag me along to the library which is across the street from the bank where she works at. I read regularly. I prefer to hold the actual book. but when the library was closed last year, I checked out e-books and read them on my laptop. I also peruse the book shelves at the local nonprofit thrift store and bring home books that are mostly nonfiction - and mostly political analysis. Mostly to get a broader understanding of each end of the spectrum and what I might be able to do to lessen the divide. An eye opener that I read recently was "Now they call me infidel" by Nonie Darwish. She grew up in Egypt, but never felt comfortable with the way the culture functioned. At thirty, she immigrated to the USA. Her writing is the story of her life, and what she sees as the cultural items that give rise to radical Islam. And she is very critical of radical Islam and gives warning to the West and what the West might do to protect against radical Islam. That said, I read a lot of fiction for fun. Things like Clive Cussler's many storylines and Iris Johanson and Robert Parker and Louis L'Amour. And right now, I am also reading some Baxter Black for the

I don't read nearly as much as I used to and I am not sure why. Since most of my travels have been by car or RV I must admit I do enjoy audio books. Nothing to deep but a good way to pass time while enjoying the scenery that passes by. Last trip enjoyed some of William Johnstone's Mountain Man books. As noted above most of the reading I do engage in has to do with technical documents, reviews, do it yourself magazines or online articles.

Love a good read

I used to read a lot of books for pleasure but my job involved a lot of bookreading so reading became a bit of a chore. Since leaving my job, I'm reading more now.

I used to read a lot of those Harlequin Romance books and books about Mysteries, but I haven't read a book in years. As I belong to a gaming site and I would much rather play games that keeps my mind fresh. As some games are so good for our memories. I hope you continue to enjoy your books and may your Thursday be a wonderful one..

In my early 20's I was really into spy/military fiction. Then I switched from fiction to non-fiction. That's when stories got super interesting, knowing that the events were true-(ish)! History, Military, serial killers, all super fascinating! There was also a time I would listen to audiobooks while at work. Now, I read books on photography and comic books.

Given your passion for photography, I can understand why those books would be capturing your attention now. I know there are avid comic collectors like the guys in “The Big Bang Theory” 😊. Are you like them?

I can certainly relate to that perspective! What kind of reading catches your fancy now?

I've been reading a lot of books on Trump (not as a fan) and at the moment I'm reading a book on the Tour de France. So it's non-fiction fpor me at the moment.
